Synopsis: Small farmers and NGOs across all of Asia oppose the introduction of GMO Golden Rice. However, the media, especially in the West, has mischaracterised this opposition as being based in ignorance and/or as orchestrated by Greenpeace, an NGO with Western roots. In this article, the Stop Golden Rice Network (SGRN), which has members from every part of Asia, puts that record straight. In the hope that future media coverage will be more accurate, SGRN sets out its scientific and social justice reasons for opposing GMO Golden Rice. These range from lack of proven efficacy and negligible safety testing to the undermining of food sovereignty, democratic rights, and general nutrition.
